I wish I could make my own soup. I miss it. Tinned soup is not that nice. Not even Baxters.
Thick lentil soup with lots of onion, potatoes, peas, carrots, runner beans, tomato puree, Marmite for the stock, herbs and black pepper and salt for seasoning, and with the soup, Norfolk dumplings, with finely chopped onion and sage in them.
A tablespoonful of oil to stop sticking.
Cooked slowly over an hour or so, with the dumplings swelling up on the surface.
That is what soup should be like.
