A Pair of old slippers

In the barely remembered past,
We were, each to the other, mysteries
Waiting to unfoldlike buds of scented roses
Sweet and beautiful .

And I longed to know and be known,
But shied away from revelation ,
lest the truth be to ugly for you to bear,
And exposure left me naked and alone.

I did not know that uncovering would be freedom,
And my very vulnerability would draw you to me,
I did not want to be needy and at your mercy
And yet craved your protection too, ah so contradictory.

Gently and with kindness you drew me,
Out of me and to you,
lead me to places  beyond my dreams
Where hope was possible and trust was safe.

I learned to be strong,
More self reliant and powerful,
Than I could have been alone.
And yes I liked the new me as she appeared .

Now we fit together like the lid to a pot,
Snugly, securely but not inseparable,
We have changed, grown comfortable,
And sit side by side like a pair of old slippers

You wrote that yourself?  I'm not a poetry fan usually, but I enjoyed that.  You have a bit of a talent there, Myrtle  >biggrin<

Yes indeed - I've seen the poem on one or two places on the internet, and have often wondered who wrote it - so now we know!

Finding my child

In longing, and yearning,
Im wasting time,
just watching the hard world
On its wildly spinning axis,
Making the same mistakes,
Over and over again.

And all of my hopes are dying,
And im feeling so damned old,
And my fears take me close to crying,
Is the child inside me dying ?
And madness beckons soon.

So Im going back to the country,
To the trees and green clad hills
To give my soul some succour
And to bring peace to my mind.

And the whistling of the sighing  wind
Is comfort from the troubles of the town
And I feel like a traveller who was lost ,
And now has found his home

And I know despite the whirling,
Of a mind that’s tossed and turned,
That this is where I want to be,
And where I would remain.

And the brook that babbles by my door
And grinds the stones to sand
Speaks gently of the silence
I thought Id never find

Where in the darkest places
Where my thoughts destroy and hurt me
Theres a little voice that tells me
I CAN be strong

And I lie in the arms of nature ,
In the shelter of her breast .
And her love and peace
Sustain me while I weep.
And as  pain leeches from me
Im safe within my sanctuary
And she gives me time to find myself again

And the child inside me sings and skips
And reaches for the sun
Thinks if she could just jump REALLY  high
She could touch it like a ball.
And now I can embrace her ,
And draw her back inside me,
And show her how she too can feel free.

And she points a single finger
at a fox upon a hill,
Gives me her awe of nature
And lets me share her thrill
And I am going to keep her
As well as she can be
Because now that ive refound her
I need her close to me.

And so we’ll rest here,
Me and “my child” forever.
And live a specially full and peaceful life.

And I will be myself, and all my parts ,
Whatever storms I weather.
And take the child within me
Along lifes path forever.

These rhymes are not intended

For those of ‘highbrow mind’

They’re just fireside reflections

Of the very simplest kind

Written by a housewife

Who can always find the time

To gather thoughts, here and there

And put them into rhyme.

ETHEL FISHER

M.B.E.

New Every Morning

Five o'clock, at early dawn, I walked the garden trod

There I saw, quite clearly, the wondrous work of God.

The air was cool, and scented - peace reigned over all

Till, - somewhere in the distance, - I heard a curlew call.

As if it were a signal, for all the world to rise

Then suddenly, a streak of light, sped swiftly through the skies.

Followed by another flash of gold against the blue

All at once, the sky was filled with multi-coloured hue.

So quickly did it happen, I almost missed the pleasure

Of watching, as the sun arose, to spread her golden treasure.

It made the hedge-rows glisten, and sparkled all the dew,

Till everything around me, seemed bright, and shining new,

I watched it, very carefully, and all the earth seemed still,

As, silently yet gloriously, it clothed a distant hill.

It really was delightful, to watch the new-born sun

Make our sleeping world aware, - a new day had begun,

Nature seemed to come alive beneath it's golden gleam,

Tiny flowers stirred, as if awakened by a dream.

Life, beneath a sunlit sky, felt somehow more secure

"None who've seen a sunrise, through early morning mist,

Could ever watch, then say outright, that God does not
exist".
Title: I am Just as Human
Post by: Tony_Demoncy on 27 Apr 2022 03:09AM
I am Just as Human

Look at me,
Look at you.
You are Human.
I am too.

We may be different,
We may have different needs.
I deserve as much respect
Though we move or think at different speeds

Though I am disabled,
Though you are not,
I am just as Human
You may have forgot

About how to treat me
As equal, deserving
Of rights and respect
Of love and of caring,

I am not less,
You are not more -
We are both human
With gifts and flaws

I am just another person
I have needs and rights and dreams
I am truly fully human
With all that is and all that means.

So treat me not with less respect
Treat me not with hate or contempt
I deserve as much from life as you
We may be different but I'm human too.

Title: Mindwalker, Mindtalker
Post by: Tony_Demoncy on 27 Apr 2022 03:22AM
This is a poem that I wrote for Deb Viney's birthday in 2011

Mindwalker, Mindtalker   :f_rose:

We have so much fun
With the world of the mind
With music and books
Rambling talks of all kinds

From one born as a tiger
To one born a rabbit
Birth makes not our destiny
We form our own habits

As we rove through this life
Our thoughts range afar
From struggle and strife
To the glory of stars

From the saint and the rogue
For love of all kinds
Happy birthday dear Deb
You are oft’ on my mind.

Title: Agapē
Post by: Tony_Demoncy on 27 Apr 2022 03:24AM
Agapē

Some love is pure,
Cares not for itself,
Seeks only to cure,
To bring about health.

To give as much love
As its soul can contain,
Love shared is not halved,
Love should bring no pain.

Love of the soul,
With nothing of lust.
Healing its goal,
It's motives are just.

Though it can be mistaken,
And feared or adored,
This kind of love
Can encompass the world.

Title: A Benediction
Post by: Tony_Demoncy on 27 Apr 2022 03:25AM
A Benediction

May we all be worthy spirits
Never causing hurt nor woe
Learn to rein the madness back
Permit our souls to grow.

Let us vanquish all the sorrows
We have cast on Earth, our friend.
Let us serve her 'til she calls us
To her bosom once again.

Never overweening arrogance
Nor domineering ways
Neither causing any suffering
To fall upon our days.

May our slumbers all be peaceful
And our wakings filled with joy
Let our faces shine with happiness
Life is for growth, for joy.

Let our laughter ring unfettered
And our souls resound with glee
And let every single one of us
Be what we ought to be.

Title: We Have Found Our Voices
Post by: Tony_Demoncy on 27 Apr 2022 03:27AM
We Have Found Our Voices

Some have found their voices
Fighting this injustice
They speak for us who've lost our voice
To ring the bell of justice

We'll no more be silenced
We'll not be swept away
or forced to die in misery
We must have our say

We must make them hear us
Hear our song of truth
This rampant weed of prejudice
Must be killed at the root.

If Tomorrow Starts Without Me…

If tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not here to see,
If the sun should rise you find your eyes all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me, as much as I love you
And each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too.
But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand.
He said my place was ready, in heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned and walked away a tear fell from my eye.
For all my life I’d always thought, I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for, so much left yet to do.
It seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays the good ones and the bad.
I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while,
I’d say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized that this could never be,
For emptiness and memories would take the place of me.
When I thought of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow
I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow.
When I walked through heavens gates I felt so much at home.
God looked down and smiled at me from his great golden throne
He said, “This is eternity and all I’ve promised you”
Today your life on earth has passed but here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last
And since each day is the same there’s no longing for the past.
You have been so faithful so trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn’t do.
You have been forgiven and now at last you’re free.
So won’t you come and take my hand and share my life with me?
So when tomorrow starts with out me don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.
